5things I've learnt from my new job

Hi loves. Happy Sunday , August is almost over🙌🙋. How did your week go?

About 2 blog posts ago,I remember praying and hoping for a job, read my rants here. Anyway I got a job that week💃💃💃 I was so excited. Finally, my first job , I was excited about going out from morning to evening, meeting new people, working with older people, being the new intern, dressing up for work and all of that exciting stuff. Before  I go far let me mention that I work in a bank and resumption time is 7/7:30am  everyday but Wednesday and Fridays.

Anyway, I started working exactly 18days,288 hours, 17280 minutes and 1036800 seconds ago. Lol that’s a lot of numbers.

Hence what today’s post is about at first I wanted to tell you guys all about my job but I didn’t know what Post to write until this came to my mind and I decided to do it because in the short while I’ve seen/noticed,been told and observed somethings I think I should share so let’s dive in!

1. Be Punctual!

So this is like the number one thing, the main thing especially when you’re new and trying to make an impression. Honestly for me being early to my job is a different job on its own because I hardly sleep till 4/5am and work starts at 7/7:30am. But! When you know what you want and how much you can gain from it (knowledge wise) I’m sure you can work something out

2. Be Respectful

When I was going to start work I knew I was going to have to address people with titles,’Miss’ ‘Mr’ ‘Mrs’ etc which wasn’t even a problem. But when I got to work i found out its a bank policy to address people by their first names😥😥😲😲 lol what!?!? Shall I mention that 90% of these people were married with kids. I was so confused for days eventually if I didn’t have to say their names I just said ‘Ma’ or ‘sir’. I’m not about to offend a 34 year old mother of 3 by calling her First name. So! All in all be respectful, it really doesn’t take anything away from you, the last thing you want is a beef and trust me there’s gossip everywhere so they won’t let you slide.

3. Mind your business!

Working is an experience for you to learn a lot of things, educational and moral things. When you start working it’s important that you’re in good terms with every one create a good first impression but don’t over do it,Be calm and obeservant, at work I’m learning to speak only when spoken to. And even then I don’t pry into people’s lives or discussions.

4. Be Calm and Listen to instructions

Understand that you are new and still learning so pay attention to that, listen and learn. Also don’t forget what you learn. I remember my first few days I always forgot that I had to bring out the atm and cheque registers, turn on the computers, bring out the stamps, set the time stamp and all that.

5. Enjoy it!

It’s work, I know but when you live what you’re doing time won’t even pass. Enjoy it,live it. If you’re on IT like me, enjoy it so much you have to request for another logbook to fill in the details. And it for your not on IT and you’re a full time worker still enjoy it.😊

Every single job is a challenge, you’re working into a new set,a new character, creating a world and trying to get comfortable to do your work best

Lol, really, I didn’t know that was a policy in the bank -calling pple by their first names. Interesting but weird.
I’ve never had a 7am to 7pm,when I do, it’s so gonna be hard adjusting to waking up so early, Chai. Enjoy your job, dear. Keep referring to them as Sir/Ma oo. LOL

  2. Congratulations on your new job.
I’m glad the Nigerian working system is moving to the first name basis. It is important to keep in mind that “Respect is indeed Reciprocal”. I work 6:30 every morning so enjoy the extra 30 minutes you get, lol.
Enjoy your job and keep learning

  4. Yes dear it’s a bank policy….. I can imagine how you felt..
I never worked in a bank the I had this “secondary school dream” to work in one.. After university I undreamt that dream 😂😂😂😂
    I have always done a 9-5 job.. I mean I resume by 9am and close by 5pm .

    I’m sure if I get a 7am – 7pm I would go late the first few weeks😂😂😂.

    And yes “mind your business”
Is one of things I learnt while I was working…. In fact very important 😂😂😂

  5. Hey.
    Congrats on your new job!!!

I’ve never had a 7-7 job but I sure do enjoy my 9-5 job. It’s a whole new perspective to life. Meeting new people and places. At my work place, people are also called by their first names too (I din’t really find that so hard because we are not so many years apart in age).
    I also love makeup too.
I also learnt office etiquettes as this is also my first job too.
    Have fun on your job!!!😘😘😘

  6. My job is an 8 – 5, but it could as well be a 7 – 7 because that’s usually how early I arrive and how late i leave. So i guess I got points for your first point! The Mind your business bit should be a Must-know!
