How to : Take Instagram Worthy Pictures with Your Phone

Currently Listening To Chris Brown’s Indigo Album on Repeat!

For the sake of this post ; ALL PICTURES WERE TAKEN WITH THE IPHONE 7plus

This post is AKA Phone Photography 101

P.s before I start “INSTAGRAM WORTHY” pictures means GOOD, Pretty and maybe somewhat aesthetically pleasing photos. Also it’s a lot so I guess I’m going to have to split the post into 2.

In this post I’m going to be telling you what you need to know and do in order to achieve getting “Instagram worthy” pictures. So let’s get into it.

.

1. CLEAN YOUR CAMERA LENS 😭

Sigh this is a general and basic rule of photography. Getting the best out of your phone camera especially for someone just starting out is important, just as important as cleaning your lens before you take any pictures. Cleaning your lens clears out blurs or fingerprints or smudges that might have touch that part of your phone while you were using it for something else

2. NEVER USE FLASH

Flash is a no-no. I’m sorry guys. I used to be on the train of people who used flash to take pictures but thankfully I saw the light and got off lol.

3.SHOOT FROM DIFFERENT ANGLES

I never take my pictures from just one angle and quite frankly I don’t even know my good side yet lol i found it once and lost it. In due time I’ll find it Again. Anyway! Shooting from different angles is key cuz you NEVER know what shot will come out banging.

4. INVEST IN YOUR EDITING APPS

See, the Instagram that we’re using now is as hard as math class , everyone is struggling to be the best version of themselves in their various fields and niches . Now I understand that not everyone reading this is a blogger or content creator but all in one, if you want a BANGING, INSTAWORTHY picture, you gotta edit. Invest in editing apps dears. VSCO, SNAPSEED, FACETUNE, AIRBRUSH, LIGHTROOM etc

5. GET INSPIRED

See a look or picture you like ? Save it, Take a screenshot and recreate with your own flair . Download apps like PINTEREST where you’ll be swimming in an ocean of ideas for looks, shoots, makeup looks, hairstyles etc

READ MY POST ON HOW TO GET STARTED ON PINTEREST: HERE

6. USE NATURAL LIGHT

Nothing beats natural lighting . I always make sure to take my pictures in natural light and when I have my photoshoot I do them in the morning between 8am – 12/1pm because then, the sun isn’t too harsh and I have that perfect brightness and natural light I need for my pictures

7. BE CONSCIOUS OF YOUR BACKDROP

Do you have too many people showing behind your pictures? Do you have litters on the floor in your pictures? Yeah. Don’t .

Understand the concept of the type of phot you’re trying to take and make sure your background matches

8.NEVER ZOOM IN

Always take your pictures as they are. Zooming is a no-no. You either move closer or away from anything you’re taking pictures that’s a better way to adjust your pictures that Zooming in. And it gives your pictures the worst and ugliest quality

9. USE A CONSISTENT FILTER i.e HAVE A THEME

White , Brown, Grey . Whatever interests you. Check Pinterest, get inspirations for the theme you’d like . Use apps like UNUM , PREVIEW, A COLOR STORY to schedule your posts and see how they’d look like on your Instagram feed.

Yeah! I think that’s it.

I hope you learnt a thing or two.

What’s apps do you currently use for editing?

Do you take your photos with your phone or camera?

I’d be waiting for your honest feedbacks in the comments ❤️

  1. 90% on my Instagram page @debwritesblog are taken with my iPhone X. All I just need to is focus on most of the things you’ve mentioned like cleaning the lens, angles and backdrops. As well as natural light.

And most important of all, editing Apps. I’m currently trying to start using a theme for my feed. I usually use Lightroom and Snapseed to edit and I plan with Preview.

I’m not really a fan of having a particular theme. Don’t think it can work for everyone. Not gonna lie, I love some people’s theme but I just can’t. Honestly speaking, I don’t do so much editing because it’s so much work and I only work with Facetune which I use occasionally and my pictures still turn out great. Currently using an IPhone 8+.

I usually use FaceTune and AirBrush to edit my pictures. As for the arranging of posts on apps like Preview, I still haven’t gotten the hang of it yet. One day though.

  7. These are very good tips! Natural light & cleaning the lens are the first things I look out for. Although I feel themed are overrated, personal opinion. Good editing and knowing the right angles are gold. Well done 👍🏾
